This project envisioned development of an economic feasibility and a business plan of an integrated regional resort for an existing property for a private investor. The investor wanted to prove himself and potential co-financing partners (Partnership Fund) the viability of a modern high class hotel and resort in the famous Georgian balneology resort. TBSC prepared a detailed analysis of the tourism potential of the region and derived economic demand  in the catchment area from various visitor segments, assessed competitive supply in quantity and quality terms and documented demand and supply gap. TBSC also prepared a detailed financial model and operational plan of the future facility.  Overall, the investor will be able to attract high profile co-investors and strategic partners and Georgia will have another nice international-level resort facility in the region.

 

 
Agricultural Value Chain Selection Study in Georgia. (2015)

CBI (Center of promotion of imports from developing countries, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands) has commissioned a study to identify high-potential export agricultural value chains (products) in Georgia and Armenia. TBSC identified a shortlist of value chains in Georgia and areas in those value chains where CBI could contribute and provide support. In order to evaluate the baseline situation, TBSC conducted interviews and discussions with the government officials and leading experts of the industry to obtain required information. Based on the data collected through discussions we identified four agricultural value chains with the highest export potential. TBSC then collected study statistics, secondary data and assessments on the four selected value chains. The assessment involved identification of: 1. Main problems and constraints that hinder the growth of exports at each stage of the value chain; 2. Initiatives currently implemented by the government and international organizations to address those problems; 3. Initiatives and programs that can be implemented by CBI to address those problems and constraints and to facilitate the growth of exports.

 

 
Investment Presentation For A Construction Company. (2015)

A well-written investor presentation is a necessary precondition to trigger interest of potential investors and a half of way through the actual deal. A well-executed investment presentation tells a persuasive story which follows some logic, like real stories do, and is backed up with analysis and solid facts. One of the services that TBSC Consulting offers is Investment Proposals and Investor Presentations. TBSC recently completed a project for a leading construction firm in Georgia for one of their large properties in the center of Tbilisi. We overviewed and analyzed several development options of the property and documented market potential for each of the use. Market, Organizational And Financial Due Diligence Of Two Hospital Projects. (2014)  

EBRD was planning to issue multi-million dollar financing to a client in Georgia for developing two hospital projects. The questions that EBRD was facing were whether or not: 1) The market was ready for these two projects; 2) The regulatory environment and general outlook of the industry was positive; 3) The financials of the two projects were reasonable; 4) The corporate capability of the client was ready to undertake two projects of this scale. TBSC Consulting, together with the hospital and healthcare sector experts, undertook this project. Four main areas were addressed: First of all TBSC analyzed demand in catchment areas and target markets, estimated spending and demand on various types of healthcare services, forecasted overall market development based on international benchmarks. We also evaluated competitive supply, both in terms of revenues and in terms of hospital beds. By comparing demand and supply, we derived conclusions about market feasibility of the two projects. TBSC also developed a customized lengthy overview of the healthcare and hospital sector and regulatory environment and assessed its influence over the planned hospital projects. Based on multiple interviews with selected representatives of the management of the client company, we assessed organizational capacity of the company and its institutional readiness to undertake this investment responsibly. Finally, we checked financial cases of the two projects and commented on the reasonableness of the assumptions and outcomes. Overall, based on our report, EBRD will make an informed decision about funding the project. It will also work with the company to improve weak areas, identified by TBSC during the study.

 

 

Scrap Steel Availability Market Feasibility Study. (2014)

After two decades of heavy exports of scrap fromGeorgia, Client wanted to understand availability of the black metal scrap as a strategic resource for the metallurgic industry inGeorgiain the medium and long run. TBSC conducted series of secondary data analysis of scrap generation inGeorgiaas well as primary survey of scrap consolidators and dealers. Based on sampling study and census of the former abandoned but not demolished soviet industrial complexes, TBSC derived conclusions about currently available scrap stock, which was left from soviet endowment. In addition to this, TBSC conducted a benchmarking cross-country study on scrap availability ratios across various comparable economies to calculate long-term equilibrium scrap generation in the economy. Overall, the conclusions were drawn, which show: a) How much scrap is left inGeorgiafrom soviet legacy at present; b) What is the equilibrium annual scrap generation volume inGeorgiaand its outlook for coming seven years.

 

 

Business Plan For Greenhouse Development Project In Samegrelo, Zugdidi District. (2014)

The Client was considering to invest in greenhouse sector and requested a credible business plan to attract investments. TBSC performed in-depth analysis of demand and supply side of greenhouse vegetables in Georgia. Number of key players in grocery retail chain were interviewed and results were combined to determine overall market demand and its seasonality. An overview of potential export markets of Russia and Ukraine was prepared. The supply side analysis was performed through interviews and thorough desk-research. Together with technical experts, a required investment was estimated to support the attainable potential market share by company. Modralog is a EU based intralogistics company providing warehousing solutions for companies in the Middle East, North Africa and former CIS countries. The company is familiar with Georgian market and conducted several B2B meetings with potential clients for its products and services with the help of TBSC Consulting. For the new project Modralog commissioned TBSC Consulting to identify the potential partners for future cooperation and presence in Georgian market. The objectives of the project were to conduct a desk analysis of traders (importers or re-sellers) of warehouse products or solutions, to identify potential partners, introduce the client to potential partners, and confirm initial expression of interest. TBSC Consulting has conducted intensive secondary research and telephone calls as well as actual site visits and face-to-face meetings to accomplish the objectives.

In 2013 EBRD became interested in the dairy products processing sector in Georgia and commissioned TBSC to perform commercial due diligence of dairy product market. Wood Processing And Drying Business Plan For Wood Impex Ltd. (2012)

Wood Impex operates a sawmill Georgia, producing dried chestnut timber and lumber that are further processed into wooden doors and windows. The company was planning to receive financing from the Partnership Fund, established by the Government of Georgia. The overall objective of the Project was to produce a credible business plan that would enable the Partnership Fund to make informed decisions on investing in or otherwise financing the Company. TBSC divided the work into several sections including Markets, Forest LOB, Sawmill LOB, Existing Value-Added LOB and General And Administrative LOB. We analyzed all of the sections separately and then drew a combined clear picture of the whole business. As a result of our analysis, we estimated the likely market demand and price for Wood Impex products in domestic and export markets, estimated required investment to support that level of demand (e.g. equipment, working capital, production capacity), estimated operating and overhead costs. Based on these findings, we developed a highly detailed financial model, which included 20 different scenarios. All of the above was combined into a credible, defensible business plan for the Company.

TBSC Consulting has been hired by Wineman to develop a business plan. The company plans to expand its existing production in a new factory and exploit new business opportunity in wine tourism. TBSC will estimate the likely market demand of wine tourism and potential demand on wine on local and export markets. Part of the TBSC’s work is to estimate the required investment to support the identified level of demand. The investment plan has three main directions: development of new vineyards, construction of hotel, renovation of the new factory and the wine cellar. TBSC will also develop operating and overhead cost model and make future projections of financial performance based on sales, price, operating & overhead costs and investment expenses.

 

 

Identifying And Exploring Potential Clients In Georgia For Modralog.(2012)

Modralog is a Czech-based intra-logistics company providing warehousing solutions for companies in the Middle East, North America and former CIS countries. The company is currently planning to expand into Georgian market and approached TBSC to identify potential clients in warehousing industry. On the first phase, TBSC developed the database of potential clients with a complete set of information about the warehouses. By applying different criteria, TBSC created a short-list of Georgian companies interested in Modralog products. On the second phase, TBSC consultants conducted B2B meetings with individual shortlisted companies and more information was collected about warehouses from the site visit, as well as direct feedback from the companies. Based on B2B meetings, TBSC appointed meetings for Modralog’s representatives with Georgian companies interested in cooperating with the Client. TBSC also accompanied Modralog’s representative during each meeting and provided organizational assistance.

 

 

Feasibility Study For New Outlet Of Large Retailer In Tbilisi District.(2012)

The bank was considering to finance the project which constituted of opening a new retail outlet in one of the districts and wanted to evaluate the feasibility of the project. TBSC estimated the catchment area of the new outlet and analyzed current demand and supply sides of retail sector within the area. The assessment of growth rate, socio-economic factors such as total population size, their income and expenditure in the catchment area, competitiveness analysis and future development forecasts were performed. The work included the desk research, in-depth interviews with leading retailers, local competitors and experts, analysis and report writing. The client used the results of the project to make the investment decision.

 

 

Manufacturing Opportunities Suggested By Regional Trade Network.(2012)

JSC Partnership Fund (Fund) is a company established by 100 percent state ownership in 2011. The purpose of the Fund is to develop greenfield investment projects in Georgia in the sectors of agriculture, infrastructure, manufacturing and energy. The Fund wished to identify opportunities for investment in manufacturing in Georgia. The Fund asked TBSC to develop a list of sectors based on regional trade in countries neighboring Georgia. The Fund wanted to explore 1) what manufactured products neighboring countries import from the rest of the world, which could be manufactured in Georgia and 2) what natural resources neighboring countries export that could be further processed in Georgia. TBSC analyzed trade flows among nine neighboring countries: Turkey, Ukraine, Romania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan. More than 5 000 commodities were analyzed, involving up to 30 000 trade flows. Several potentially interesting manufacturing sectors were identified. TBSC identified ten manufacturing sectors for further work and also provided recommended actions for each of the analyzed sectors.

 

 

Grocery Retail Market Due Diligence In Georgia.(2011)

European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) was considering a debt investment in one of the large retailer in Georgia and assigned TBSC to conduct commercial due-diligence. The assessment growth potential of retail market in Georgia, socio-economic factors influencing the grocery retailing, competitiveness analysis and future development forecasts was performed. The work included the desk research, in-depth interviews with leading retailers and experts, analysis and report writing. EBRD used the results of the project to make the investment decision.  

 

 

Georgian Wine And Spirits Company. (2011)

TBSC Consulting has been hired by Georgian Wine And Spirits Company to develop a business plan. Recently, GWS has been acquired by Marussia Beverage Georgia which itself, is a subsidiary of the Dutch group Marussia Beverages BV. The Marussia Beverage Group plans to establish successful performance of Georgian wines on export markets. TBSC Consulting developed a market research component of business plan for Georgian Wine And Spirits Company. Part of TBSC’s work was to analyze 12 export markets for GWS and Chateau Mukhrani wines based on the primary information of country market reports. We also developed production cost model as a part of financial forecast. The project is still in process which will include development of full-fledged financial forecast.

 

 

Research Of Georgian Event Management And Wine Tourism Market for Chateau Mukhrani. (2011)

Chateau Mukrani is a leading wine producer in Georgia. At the winery, the Chateau is renovating a historical castle of a Georgian royal family and turning it into a high-standard event center and wine-tourism destination. As part of its planning and capital expenditure budgeting processes, the Chateau needed a credible estimate of demand for various services that might be offered at the renovated castle such as wine tours and business meetings. TBSC was retained to collect needed data and then make a credible demand forecast that could be presented to the Board. Tasks performed by TBSC included designing and filling out the demand forecast model. The supply side of the market was interviewed by TBSC, while for demand side, we subcontracted ACT. Based on the survey instrument developed by TBSC, ACT conducted interviews with about 130 large Georgian companies, international organizations, diplomatic missions and other potential clients for Chateau. The data was analyzed and we arrived at the estimated demand for Chateau over the forecast period. Prices were then added to forecast overall revenue. Results were presented in a number of discussion documents that will be provided directly to the Chateau’s Board as they consider various planning and budgeting options. Study Of Export Obstacles For Georgian Agricultural Products To The United States.(2010)

The Department of Commerce of United States is carrying out the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP). The Department of Commerce of United States contacted American Chamber of Commerce in Georgia, which in turn got in touch with TBSC. AmCham was interested to find out what are the main inhibiting factors of exporting Georgian agricultural products to the U.S. and what are the possible solutions to such problems. TBSC planned a two-step survey (baseline and ex-post) and interviewed 300 Georgian companies involved in agricultural production. The interviews aimed at finding out whether the companies exported to the U.S.; if not, what factors set them back and what were their future plans in this regard. TBSC revealed the main challenges Georgian agricultural companies faced in exporting their production to the U.S. and gave recommendations on how to handle them. With the recommendation of TBSC, the United States Department of Agriculture organized a workshop on the U.S. import standards in Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Batumi.

 
 

Trade Investment Mission (TIM) For United States Foreign Agricultural Service. (2010)

The TBSC Consulting, together with the American Chamber of Commerce in Georgia (AmCham Georgia), was organizing the USDA Trade & Investment Mission 2010. The goal was to help U.S. companies find local counterparts (partners, clients, vendors and so on) in Georgia. 11 American companies operating in the agricultural sector visited Georgia to meet with local businesses and learn about opportunities in the country.

 

 

Assessing Investment In Cheese Production For Eco-Food. (2010)

TBSC Consulting and Larive International assessed the viability of investing in professional cheese production in Georgia for leading dairy producer Georgian Eco. The company was considering taking advantage of the market opportunities and investing in cheese production in Georgia. However, before making the final decision, the company needed to assess the feasibility of cheese production on factory level in Georgia. TBSC Consulting and Larive International, together with Dutch expert companies in Cheese production, consulted Eco on viability of investing in professional cheese production in Georgia. The work included market analysis and most importantly technical concept of the optimal production line for Georgian Eco. Low productivity and poor quality milk are major problems in primary milk supply. This is caused by unproductive local breed, poor feed management, poor cow welfare and unsatisfactory sanitary conditions of milking and storage, poor animal health and absence of properly organized value chain. Respectively, there are good business opportunities in development of primary milk production in Georgia. Margebeli JSC, a leading food and beverage producer in Georgia uniting market leaders such as Marneuli Food Factory and Nabeglavi, decided to benefit from unexploited opportunities and contribute to the development of primary milk production in Georgia. The holding was planning to invest in the first large modern dairy farm in Georgia. TBSC Consulting assisted Margebeli in business planning and produced a comprehensive Business Plan. The document demonstrates high demand for local fresh raw milk in Georgia and most importantly assesses viability of investing in large-scale professional dairy farm in Georgia. The Business Plan was used by Margebeli with investors to attract additional financing. At the same time, the document will be used by Margebeli team to plan the business development correctly from the very beginning. Client wanted to invest in vegetable growing and storage business. A very detailed business plan was needed for investors to demonstrate the attractiveness and profitability of the business. TBSC consulting staff performed desk research of vegetable growing and storage sector in Georgia and obtained relevant statistical information. We interviewed industry experts to understand the business and prepared an analytical report on vegetable growing and storing industry based on the qualitative and quantitative analysis. Our team developed a detailed financial model using modern financial tools for decision-making. The presentation was discussed with investors and some negotiations took place. Quick Packaging Market Scan And Identification Of Potential Clients In Georgia For Qvadra Pak. (2010)

A Latvian producer of very high-quality paper packaging, Q-Carton (Qvadra Pak) contacted TBSC. It was interested in identifying potential clients in Georgia and holding negotiations with them. Client gave TBSC a list of sectors based on which Team identified ten large consumers of such type of packaging. Team conducted introductory meetings with those potential clients. During the meetings, Team had to introduce Q-Carton to the company, find out from whom the company purchased the packaging at the time, at what price and if they may be interested in an offer from Q-Carton. Client wanted to diversify in food varieties and invest in fresh Champignon production. Client had no information about feasibility of investing in professional fresh mushroom farm in Georgia. It also had no expertise and knowledge in planning to run modern mushroom farm and wanted a transfer of foreign equipment. TBSC identified a suitable Dutch producer of mushroom equipments and organized their visit in Georgia and negotiation with Client. We performed desk research and collected statistical information on mushroom market, did interviews with large retailers and other potential clients, prepared an analytical report on financial forecast based on detailed  analysis of mushroom cultivation cycle. Business Plan For New Production Line For Women Hygiene Products. (2008)

Italian Georgian Industries Group (IGI Group) approached TBSC to prepare a comprehensive Business Plan for establishing a new production line. The main objectives of the Business Plan was to estimate the size of the market for thin pads, understand the competitive situation for thin pads and forecast the overall profitability of the new production line. The Business Plan presented a business case for IGI Group to establish the new line and was later used for attracting necessary financing.

   

 

Testing Georgian Wine In The U.S. Market. (2008)

Project included two parts and Mr. Bill Samnon, an American wine buyer, was TBSC partner in this Project. The first part was done on TBSC account. TBSC researched the Georgian wines sold in the U.S. and the research included traveling. A group of ten Georgian wineries were identified and TBSC shipped 40 different wines to the U.S. Mr. Samnon was responsible for distributing the wines for testing. TBSC identifies the wines that were suitable for the American taste as well as the likely price points for all of those wines. TBSC developed a Georgian wine market penetration strategy for the U.S. but pursuing the strategy was beyond the financial capabilities of the Company. Yet, at the time, TBSC understood what the Georgian companies are doing nowadays. The second part of Project was done for Georgian National Investment Agency (GNIA) and it was concerned with reverse wine-tasting. TBSC discussed the first part with GNIA and then brought 20 American wines for Georgian wine-makers to taste. The purpose was for Georgian producers to better understand what the taste in wine is like in the U.S.

 

 

Short Intensive Analysis (Due Diligence) Preceding 2,5 USD Million Investment. (2008)

The Polish Embassy in Georgia was considering the purchase of a new building for the Embassy for a price exceeding two million USD. Due to budgetary-year issues, Embassy staff had only one week to complete due-diligence on the purchase. The Embassy requested that TBSC perform the due diligence, primarily due to the ability of TBSC to organize and manage a full-scale due-diligence in the space of one week. TBSC mobilized and managed experts in four different fields (i.e., valuation, legal, engineering and seller). Work included briefing the experts on what needed to be done, managing and supervising their work and consolidating their results into a ten-page due-diligence opinion letter. Feasibility Study For Beef Farm. (2008)

IOCC together with Georgian Patriarchate was planning to invest in a medium-size beef farm in Georgia. To make an informed decision partners needed a business plan that would evaluate the profitability of 100-cow beef farm in Georgia and access the competition on the market. TBSC Consulting was hired to conduct the feasibility study and assess the viability of investment. We collected the market and cost data, analyzed the current problems and constraints and learned about needs for the sales outlets and retailers. Partners used the results of the business plan to make the final investment decision and reevaluate the required scope for investment.

 

Pig Farm For Georgian-Dutch JV. (2008)

High quality fresh pork is very popular in Georgia. Domestic supply is quite limited due to the absence of modern pig farms, poor knowledge of swine husbandry among farmers and unsanitary practices throughout the supply chain. During the first phase of project, TBSC prepared the investment plan/proposal for the Georgian partner. During the second phase, TBSC together with Larive Netherlands found the most suitable Dutch partner and assisted Georgian side with negotiating the structure of JV. TBSC Consulting acted as an intermediary between the Georgian partner and a Dutch pig farmer. The two partners were to invest jointly. The Dutch farmer would provide knowhow; the Georgian side would be willing students and eventually would manage the business. TBSC Consulting identified the partners and facilitated discussions between them. TBSC then prepared a comprehensive business plan. The document demonstrates high demand for local fresh pork in Georgia and most importantly assesses viability of investing in large-scale professional pig farm in Georgia.

 

 

Investment Plan And Partner Search For Cold Storage In Poti. (2007)

SJS USA decided to open cold storage in Poti. Company had no previous experience in the business and needed strategic plus financial partner for the project. TBSC prepared the investment proposal for the client and traveled to the largest conference of cold-storage operators in the world to find the suitable partner. The deal was made with one of the prime international cold-storage operators to invest in the business and operate the cold storage. TBSC also assisted client to fill out the application for OPIC financing. TBSC also operated a representative office for Company in regards to this and other projects.

 

 

Pre-feasibility Study For Cold-Storage Project Of Agritechnics. (2007)

Client was planning to build a new 2 000 metric ton (MTN) Controlled-Atmosphere Cold-Storage (CACS) near Mtskheta and Gori, Georgia. The primary purpose of the CACS was to replace the existing out-dated Agritechnics cold-storage and allocate an additional 1 000 MTN of space for commercial use. TBSC undertook a pre-feasibility study of the cold-storage.

  

 

Hydropower Market Feasibility Study. (2007)

TBSC completed a feasibility study for investors in Hydroelectric Power Plant in Georgia. During the feasibility study, TBSC analyzed the market for locally produced energy in Georgia as well as in neighboring countries, studied the process of hydro energy business development and evaluated the profitability of specific hydroelectric power plans in Georgia. Based on the results, the investors received full understanding of the sector from business, as well as technical perspectives and were able to make an informed decision on investing in this business.
