SCRAP STEEL AVAILABILITY MARKET FEASIBILITY STUDY. (2014)

After two decades of heavy exports of scrap fromGeorgia, Client wanted to understand availability of the black metal scrap as a strategic resource for the metallurgic industry inGeorgiain the medium and long run. TBSC conducted series of secondary data analysis of scrap generation inGeorgiaas well as primary survey of scrap consolidators and dealers. Based on sampling study and census of the former abandoned but not demolished soviet industrial complexes, TBSC derived conclusions about currently available scrap stock, which was left from soviet endowment. In addition to this, TBSC conducted a benchmarking cross-country study on scrap availability ratios across various comparable economies to calculate long-term equilibrium scrap generation in the economy. Overall, the conclusions were drawn, which show: a) How much scrap is left inGeorgiafrom soviet legacy at present; b) What is the equilibrium annual scrap generation volume inGeorgiaand its outlook for coming seven years.
