Each year TBSC Consulting and Bank of Georgia co-produce Georgia’s Business Case Analysis Competition. Quite a mouthful, so we just call it the Case Competition.
The purpose of the competition is to give students an opportunity to adapt to the role of a decision-maker in a managerial position. In the process, participants will develop the skills of quick thinking, teamwork, and evaluating next steps based on different components. The students will gain experience that will give them great advantage in both their studies and employment

Case Competition Structure
The business cases are selected by the management at TBSC and cover a wide range of business fields. Each case incorporates financial, managerial, marketing, and reputational aspects, aiming to help students apply the theoretical knowledge they’ve gained at university to real-world business problems.
Evaluation is done according to the evaluation criteria which are split into two parts: functional criteria and subjective criteria. The functional criteria are used for scoring and focus on key elements such as understanding the case, the depth of analysis, the clarity of recommendations and the ability to respond to questions. On the other hand, the subjective criteria do not affect final scores but are used to provide constructive feedback to students. These criteria assess the quality of the marketing, financial and industry-specific analysis. The goal is to offer students guidance on where they can improve for future competitions.
After each round, the judges meet to discuss and collectively decide which teams from their panel should be placed in the top three. The judges must agree on a unified ranking. The scores serve as a guide to help them understand each team’s performance and presentation, but they are not the final or only factor in determining the winners.

Demographics of Participants
-
- The 2024 Case Competition was the biggest business-related competition held in Georgia as 450 students (around 100 teams) from 20 Georgian universities showed interest in participation.
- To truly understand the competition, it is essential to focus on its most important element: the students. By analyzing the statistical data gathered from participants, we can gain valuable insights into their backgrounds and experiences.
- In past years, Tbilisi-based universities dominated the competition, with Kutaisi International University as the sole regional participant. This year, TBSC conducted outreach visits to 10 regional universities, effectively raising awareness about the competition. The initiative was highly successful, with all 10 universities participating, resulting in equal representation between Tbilisi and regional universities.
- While the majority of participants are native Georgian speakers, the competition is conducted in English, allowing individuals with other native languages to take part. For instance, in 2024, the competition included participants whose mother languages were English, Russian, Persian and Armenian, demonstrating its commitment to inclusivity.
- An analysis of the participants’ demographics revealed an interesting trend in gender dynamics which highlighted a potential area for improvement—empowering more women to participate in business-related programs.
