STUDY OF EXPORT OBSTACLES FOR GEORGIAN AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS TO THE UNITED STATES. (2010)

The Department of Commerce of United States is carrying out the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP). The Department of Commerce of United States contacted American Chamber of Commerce in Georgia, which in turn got in touch with TBSC. AmCham was interested to find out what are the main inhibiting factors of exporting Georgian agricultural products to the U.S. and what are the possible solutions to such problems. TBSC planned a two-step survey (baseline and ex-post) and interviewed 300 Georgian companies involved in agricultural production. The interviews aimed at finding out whether the companies exported to the U.S.; if not, what factors set them back and what were their future plans in this regard. TBSC revealed the main challenges Georgian agricultural companies faced in exporting their production to the U.S. and gave recommendations on how to handle them. With the recommendation of TBSC, the United States Department of Agriculture organized a workshop on the U.S. import standards in Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Batumi.
